What is World Wide Swim School?

Welcome to the world's first and finest online learn to swim school! Our website has been designed to share with parents and swimming teachers, 40 years of successul swimming teaching techniques.

All our swimming information is designed by Laurie Lawrence, Australia's water safety advocate, infant aquatics pioneer, learn to swim expert and gold medal Olympic swim coach.

0 - 4 months

First baby swimming lesson starts in the bath

First swim lessons start in the bath where we stimulate and maintain baby's natural affinity with water, teach breath control on command, and prepare for formal lessons.

4 - 8 months

Early learn to swim lessons stimulates the senses

Babies' early learn to swim lessons focus on breath control, submersion and free floating. The baby swim lesson provides the perfect opportunity for stimulating the senses.

8 - 12 months

Learning water safety skills

Baby is becoming mobile on land. This allows them to initiate movement in water, float and pull up on a ledge, float between adults, and start to learn water safety skills.

12 - 18 months

Baby is starting to become independent in the water

Baby will start to swim through the water using primitive actions like a dolphin wriggle or the crawling action. Baby is starting to become increasingly independent in the water.

18 months - 2 yrs

Child learning water saftey and survival skills

Baby will now combine the paddling and kicking actions to move efficiently through the water. The child will also be capable of performing water safety and survival skills.

2 - 2.5 yrs

The child can learn basic freestyle and backstroke drills

More experienced swimmers will start to learn basic freestyle and backstroke drills. Beginners will be introduced to the water using progressive learn to swim techniques.

2.5 - 3 yrs

Children are now learning the concept of swimming

Children are now learning the concept of swimming and breathing, this makes them capable of independent water play under strict adult supervision.

3 - 4 yrs

Children perfect basic swim skills

Children perfect basic swim skills. Streamline floating, fast kicking and long accelerated paddling down the centreline leads to a great swimming technique at an early age.

4 - 5 yrs

Children are ready to learn to swim in swimming classes

Children are ready to learn to swim in small groups. It is extremely important for children to be placed in swimming classes according to their individual swimming ability.

Freestyle

By using a progressive learn to swim approach all children have the opportunity to learn the modern freestyle swimming action.

Backstroke

Teaching backstroke requires gradual skill development. As each skill is mastered the next skill is introduced maintaining the building block approach.

Breaststroke

The Laurie Lawrence method of teaching breaststroke focuses on isolating the kicking and pulling skills so that quick, efficient and correct mastery of breaststroke is achieved.

Butterfly

When teaching butterfly it is best to focus on isolating arm and leg movements before utilising a number of butterfly stroke drills to develop the correct full stroke butterfly.
